Motherhood: Getting Creative

What is Life? Ask any working mother that question and they will tell you that life is a juggling act; one you have to keep up with even when you drop the ball. I've been working full-time for 6 months now. That's a while. That's half a year. That's a lot of time to be away from my children.

With working comes a lot less time to interact with my kids. In an effort to instill a little bit more of that precious interaction, I find little (sometimes seemingly odd) ways of including them as I carry out what I have to do. Dinner time is a prime example. If I am making something that needs chopping, I give a portion to the children with a children's plastic butter knife and let them chop with me. The other night we were having biscuits and gravy for dinner, one of Liliane's favorite meals. So, out came the rolling pin and Wesley and Liliane went to town kneading and rolling the dough.

In all honestly, it is easier to cook when the children aren't helping me, but it's worth the extra time when I get to spend it them. I want Liliane and Wesley to remember that I did cook for them. That Jordan and I made a honest effort in eating together as a family.

Its interesting to think that a year ago I had no idea that I would have this experience. We are still trying to find our bearings through it all. Some days are easier than others. And we have days that are just. plain. hard. But we keep moving. That's what matters.
