Vegas, Baby

We headed to Vegas (Henderson) to visit Jordan's brother and his family this past weekend. We had an awesome time. I love short little vacations like this to break up the mundane of everyday.
We left on Thursday afternoon and got to our destination around 8:30pm. I started a new book on the drive, which I'm liking so far. I was so excited when we started to see the lights from the city. The kids traveled fine on the way there. Wesley slept from Payson to Cedar City, which was awesome! By the time we were in the city, Liliane was ready to be done with the car, and I don't blame her. We only stopped once for gas and a potty break in Cedar City, which helped us to get there sooner rather than later.
The children had so much fun playing with cousins. They enjoyed the slightly warmer weather, too!
We took a trip to the outlets and rode the carousel. I found myself a mint-colored belt from Charlotte Russe for only $3.99! That was really the only thing we bought while we were away. I'm excited about how inexpensive it was!

We took a nice walk down an abandoned railway near Lake Mead. This railway was used to freight in supplies and materials when they were building the Hoover Dam. We probably walked 4 miles or so on our 2-hour stroll. Both Jordan and I were a little sore from carrying our children, but it was worth it to see the tunnels. Wesley fell asleep in my arms on the way back, which is something he hasn't done since before he was a year old. That kid likes his bed. Its a very rare occasion when he falls asleep anywhere else.
After our walk we went over to the harbor where we fed the fish and the ducks. We stopped for ice-cream, too. Wesley and Liliane squealed when they saw the fish and the ducks. They thought it was the neatest thing to throw them bread and popcorn. I think we went through five and a half loaves of bread while we were there. (Its a good thing those loaves only cost $.99!)
The fish would open their mouths up wide and it was pretty disgusting to look at. They were weird, but the children didn't mind. They thought the fish were awesome!
After the Lake, we drove up to the Hoover Dam. Jordan and his dad had been there before, but I hadn't. I was a little nervous on the short drive because I wasn't sure how I would do with the heights. I don't consider myself afraid of heights, but I never know what's going to get me.
The bridge was incredible! I couldn't believe how they did it. The whole thing is made out of concrete! I was asking Ken, my father-in-law, how they were able to do something like that. He said they probably did it one layer at a time and that there's loads and loads of re-bar in there. It was amazing.

As Liliane and I looked over this edge, she said to me, "Mommy! Don't fall down there, okay?" I had to explain to her that that wouldn't happen and that the guard walls were there to protect us. Sweet girl. She's always on the lookout.
On Saturday evening, Wesley fell asleep in the car on the way back from the Dam. It was around 4:30 when we got back to Jordan's brother's house, and Wesley stayed asleep when I brought him inside and laid him on the bed. He continued to sleep, even after Jordan and my attempts at waking him. I even gave him his antibiotic as he was sleeping, which he swallowed without any trouble. Jordan and I then left him and Liliane in the care of Jordan's parents while we joined Jordan's brother and his wife on a bike ride. I thought, for sure, Wesley would wake up while we were gone. We went and had a great time riding. I only crashed once, but it wasn't too bad. We were gone just over an hour, and when we got back, Wesley was still sleeping. I went and checked on him again (still asleep) and then went back downstairs and helped with dinner. Then after dinner, Jordan and I went on a little drive up and down the Strip in Las Vegas. Again, I thought Wesley would wake up sometime while we were gone. He didn't. He slept all the way through the night until 5:30am the next morning. I couldn't believe it! We must have worn that kid out with all the activities we did the day before!

Sunday morning we got up and got all ready to head home. Thanks to NASCAR, our drive home was an hour longer, but we made it home eventually. I was grateful that we made the trip there and back in safety. It is always a relief to get to your destination with no hiccups. Now I am just waiting for our weather to get warmer. Its Utah, afterall, so who knows how long it will take for the temps to get warm for good.
